SILVER has developed a plan: Lexa will build a channel-detection-machine, they will retrieve whoever is in channel 3, and then they will send someone in on that channel with the detector to find out what channel the other two victims are on. Alexandra and the others talk to Godfrey about getting a few items from the Smithsonian: Lewis and Clark's compass, Dorothy's ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz, and the first cinematograph by Lumiere. Godfrey is doubtful but promises to work on it and talk to them midday tomorrow.
Also, that evening, Gavin tries to call Moonglow (of the Weather Channelers) but can't get him on the phone. He calls Uriel, instead, who picks up after zero rings. Uriel impresses Gavin with his frank assessment of his teammate's abilities - he doesn't think that Moonglow will be able to find the number, since any number the team picks is equally "important" to the people in the TV... either they are freed, or they die. Kim Naybors might be able to verify a number, but would not be able to find one with no prompting. Gavin thanks him and says he may call back for help from Kim later.
The next morning, the small press mob outside the house is gone because of a sudden scandal involving the labor secretary and child pornography. The team mostly hangs around until early afternoon, when Godfrey returns and says that he hasn't been able to get past A.D. Pelf, let alone get to the Smithsonian. He isn't willing to go over her head again, but he is willing to play with unofficial channels. They assure him that Esteban will be very very persuasive and Esteban, Thielo, and Godfrey go to the American History Museum and talk to the Director of Exhibits. Godfrey isn't very persuasive, but then Esteban says that they really need to borrow these items for the case and lays a little mojo on the Director. He finally agrees to let Esteban borrow the items provided they take along someone as a minder for the items. They agree and when they get back to the house Godfrey arranges for a never-ending amount of red tape for the minder to deal with, leaving the team free to mildly mutilate the nation's treasures.
Sachmo isn't holding together very well so they decide to take him out immediately and put in someone else. They use the remote on channel 3, but unfortunately counter to assumptions that was Dawn's channel, not Sachmo's. SILVER sends Esteban in (with some tranquilizers) to help hold him and the girl together, but Esteban finds the experience very freaky and it's only the tranquilizers that keep the situation running okay. Lexa and Thielo get building.
Late that night, Gavin is awakened where he sleeps on a chair by an FBI agent who says one of his associates has arrived to speak with him. He's confused, but goes out to the porch where a blind woman and her seeing-eye-dog await him. She takes him to one side and says that her group won't tolerate the Inquisition working with the FBI. They understand that the team will want to finish the present assignment and will allow it, but afterwards they are to have nothing to do with the government. Gavin asks who her group is, and she says he knows, holding one finger to her lips. He promises to pass on her warning, and she leaves.
The device isn't finished until the next evening. When it is, Gavin takes it in, replacing Esteban, and quickly determines Sachmo's channel. They retrieve him. Gavin then has to protect the somewhat fragile device through an hour of television before the girl shows up. (Her body has also been delivered, along with skeptical doctors and the Senator). Gavin finds her channel as well, and Lexa uses the remote to pull first the girl and then Gavin from the TV. DeeDee is whisked away again to the hospital, but Senator Rumpson does take the time to thank the team sincerely.
The next day Alexandra disassembles her device and repairs minor damage to the Smithsonian's artifacts before they are returned. The team also reports their success and arranges for the television to be transported to the Inquisition still under power (portable generator) for fear that turning it off might break the magic. They then fly home, Esteban spending a couple days at the Chicago branch in the care of Dr. Atsui, who helps alleviate his growing feeling of helplessness. Gavin passes on the Sleepers' warning, but Damien doesn't think that Alex Abel will be very happy about it... half of the point of this mission was to get a good solid connection with the government.
A few days later at the Ranch, Alex Abel arrives and offers the team B level clearance. However it is only an offer... once you have B level clearance you will never leave the Inquisition. Even if you retire and become a painter, TNI will keep tabs on you and may call on you again. The Strausses accept almost immediately (Gavin, of course, beats them to it), but then decide to hold off as Alex explains that they can't ever leave. Esteban and Angelina are taking a little time to consider. Alex also confirms that he isn't happy with the Sleepers' warning - he believes that soon the government may not be able to ignore the supernatural, and when that happens he wants to be there with a team to fill the government's need.
