(This conversation occurs between "Getting Biblical" and "Multiplicity") Thielo: "Why are you taking pills, Lexa?" Lexa: "The *world* is going to end in a few years! How could I try to bring a child into it just before that? Or maybe it won't *end* end, just change, but that city, everyone in it was destroyed, for knowing too much about the Invisible Clergy, or the pillars, whatever they were then. If the Ascended are going to be smiting people who know too much..." Maybe we won't be smote, I don't know, and then we can think about it again then... Thielo: "As far as the world ending goes, it's a horrible thing, but from what Saint Germain told us, there is a good chance that people will stay the same. Even if they aren't, wouldn't you rather get the chance to meet your child and get to know them for a few years, than never meet them at all? "If you are more worried about leaving the child orphaned, I don't know what to say. We're in a dangerous line of work. We could ask for research positions, those would be safer, but there are no guarentees." Lexa: "And I suppose I'm worried also, what happens if we don't find our Communist in time? In that case, the people probably won't stay the same, or even be very happy afterwards... "I shouldn't have just decided for both of us, I know, but I didn't know how to start to say something, it just seemed so... so fatalistic, or despairing, and it's not really that, I just don't want to guess wrong." Thielo: "No, that's fine. I wouldn't want to have children unless you were sure. If you have doubts, that's a good enough reason for me to wait. I do think we shouldn't stop living our lives and put everything on hold until this is resolved, though. Then if everything works out, we'll have wasted all of this time. "Would you feel differently about an adoption?" Lexa: That would at least be... a child who was already *in* the world, they would already have to live in however things turned out. Thielo: "I have been thinking of adoption. We've been married a long time with no children. There's a possibility that we can't have any. And there are a lot of children in the world who need good families." Lexa: "That would be... I think I would like to look into that, yes. I wouldn't want to be one of those parents who is never home, but the current arrangements are all right for that. Hmm. I wonder how children and clearance go together, it might be necessary to move off of the ranch, but then, Gwen does not have clearance..." Thielo: "I'd expect that clearance wouldn't be an issue for a few years, after the child started understanding speech. If we decide this is what we want to do, we can discuss it with Damien. We can't be the first people in the Inquisit ion to want to start a family. I'm certain something could be worked out." Well, it is a decision to be slept upon, at least."
