The Judith Butler-inspired 'jbuttmaster' challenges two conditioned positions: 1) an arabesque-a position that is acknowledged as conditioned since it is consciously performed in dance, and 2) a resting cross-legged position (the 'secretary sit') which is performed without aknowledgement that it is a conditioned repetitive act.

The jbuttmaster bring consciousness to the performance of the secretary sit by making it one of exertion rather than rest. A tension rod running through wooden vertabrae provides resistance to a position of the legs being closed into a cross-legged position. Similarly, the body is freed of exertion in the arabesque through the support of a compressive arch that forms with the swing of the spine. The jbuttmaster thus poses the potential for alterate realities of the body's performative patterns.
