1. Q: I had a question regarding the second problem. What is known about the initial displacement and velocity of the string. Should we assume V(x,0)=d/dx V(x,0)=0? Or some function?

A: CONSIDER ONLY SINUSOIDAL TIME DEPENDENCE. ASSUME THAT WAVES STARTED TO COME SINCE t= - infinity. YOU CONSIDER THE QUASI STEADY STATE. INITIAL DATA DO NOT MATTER.

2. Q: ?

A: In problem no 1, assume that the end of the branch is closed and rigid.

3. Q: I have a question about the tkae home final. In the part A of question 2, I have to solve a linear system of equations. Do I have to do this by hand or am I allowed to use a computer for this?

A: YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SOLVE IT BY HAND. PLEASE DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER.

4. Q: ?

A: In the figure for the last problem , \phi_o there should read \phi_o^I. It represents the potential for the incident wave part of the leading order solution , not the entire leading order soultion \phi_o in the perturbation series.

5. Q: I have a question about the 4th problem. Towards the bottom of the page, it says that K A << 1. Which K is this, the one describing the gravity wave or the one describing the incoming wave (phi).?

A: K is the wave number of the sea surface.
