INSTRUCTIONS FOR FLORIDA CITRUS COMPANY TEAM WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT

Please refer to the 1.265 website for the document of "Assignment Grading Policy." This document applies to all written team assignments.

In addition, please follow the instructions below for the Florida Citrus Co. assignment to facilitate class discussion and grading:

1. Please provide us with a "dollars/container" answer/comparison.

2. For the purposes of your calculations, this is how to measure the time it takes a container when it leaves the company facility until being at the port terminal waiting for the ship. We will all assume one day for the overnight truck trip. In other words, in the case of Southern Freight, the ship leaves on Thurs. with the container required to be in the terminal 24 hours prior to sailing. We don't know the sailing time but we will assume that the one day for the trip takes us up to the sailing time.

For example, a container that leaves the company facility on Tues. would consume 2 days until the ship sailed (one day of truck transport+"excess terminal waiting" and one day of required terminal waiting). A container that leaves the company facility on Mon. consumes 3 days. Of course, if the container is "bumped", it won't actually get on the ship.

3. Trucks leave the company facility for the terminal Monday through Friday night. No trucks leave on Sat. and Sun. The containers that leave the company facility on Friday night arrive at the terminal on Sat. morning. If a requested container for Friday is not supplied, the container does not leave the company facility before Monday night.

4. FastShip guarantees the on-time delivery of the pick-up containers to the Florida Citrus Company's facility.
