How to submit your 10.10 homework over the Web

From the main web page for course 10.10, there is a link labelled:

The Web Homework Submission Page

When you have homework files ready to be submitted, you should copy them to a workstaton that has Web access, if they are not already there. If you've done your matlab work at an Athena workstation, you're ready to go. If you have done your matlab work at a Microsoft Windows cluster, you will probably need to copy your files onto a floppy, take the floppy to a cluster, and copy the file into your Athena directory. You should print out this page to help you with that task. (A word of warning: floppies have a disturbingly high rate of failure. If you're copying from a machine that you may not have access to later, you might want to copy your work onto two floppies.)

Once the files are on a web-enabled workstation, just click on:

The Web Homework Submission Page

from here, or from the main 10.10 Web page.

A popup dialog will appear asking you for your username and password. Your username will be the same as your Athena user name. The password will be emailed to you by Wednesday, February 13. Both your username and your password should be entered in lower case, so be sure your [caps lock] key is off. If you have trouble with the password or username, please contact jerry clabaugh, at jerryc@mit.edu.

By clicking on the Browse. . . button, you can locate the files you wish to submit. Or, you can just type the pathname into the text entry field. Don't forget to enter the assignment number.

You don't need to submit all the files for an assignment in one command, or at one time; you may submit one part on a Saturday, and another part on Tuesday. Just be sure you enter the correct assignment number on the Web form.

If the file is successfully submitted, you will see a list of all the assignments you have submitted to date.

If you have any problems using the Web page, you should e-mail your assignment as an attachment to one of the TA's, so that you will have a time-stamped submission of your homework.

All the files you submit as homework must have unique names; you can't submit a file called homework.m for assignment 1, then another file with the same name as assignment 4. It's a good idea to put the number of the assignment into all your filenames, to ensure uniqueness; this will also help you stay organized.

And, N.B.: you must be logged into your workstation as yourself, don't try to submit homework from a friend's workstation!

Verifying Submitted Assignments

You can verify what files have been submitted, and whether they have been graded by going to the same site; there is a link that says:

click here to view files submitted

Just click on the word 'here' to see the files that you have uploaded.

If the file has been graded, the word 'graded' will be a link that you can click on to download the file that the TA has sent back to you.

The file will probably appear in your browser window, but you can do a 'Save As' (look under the 'File' menu item in your browser) to save the file in a location convenient to you.
