If you are on MIT's WIFI network skip Step 1, and go to Step 2. Otherwise, if you're offcampus go to Step 1.

http://ist.mit.edu/vpn and download MIT's VPN since Arc requires you to run a VPN. Follow instructions to install and run VPN client. Ensure your VPN is running by going to
https://whatsmyip.com
and verify the IP address begins with 18.

Follow the instructions to download and install ArcDesktop
STEP 4:
Test ArcMap by opening sample data through the Dropbox folder
STEP 5:
Borrow ArcGIS licenses (while on VPN) which allows you to work offline without the VPN.
- Navigate to Start > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator.
- Check Desktop Advanced, Network 3d Spatial Analyst GeoStatistical Tracking and Data Interoplability and click Apply.
- Check Desktop Advanced and any other licenses you will be using, and click Apply.
- When you are ready to return the borrowed licenses, return to this page, uncheck everything, and click Apply.
