There is no new Lab Exercise today. The goals for today's lab are:
- Review your strategy for saving class exercises;
- Do work on local drive; either USB portable drive or C:\temp
- Accumulate all your files and data for a project/exercise in a working folder (with sub-folders for data): e.g., C:\temp\hwk2
- Save ArcMap documents at top level of your folder (with relative references to data stored in sub-folders)
- Create any personal geodatabase for your project in this folder (or sub-folder)
- Save ArcMap documents early and often: e.g., C:\temp\hwk2\hwk2.2_v1.mxd, C:\temp\hwk2\hwk2.2_v2.mxd,...
- Before logging off
- Save/close all open ArcMap documents, ArcCatalog, MS-Access databases, spreadsheets, Word, etc.
- If using USB drive, be sure to use Toolbar icon to "safely remove hardware and eject media"
- If saving in network locker, be sure to copy entire tree of working folder to network locker: Drive H: or Drive I: or OneDrive on lab machines
- Review basics of MS-Access, Personal Geodatabases, and connecting ArcMap to them and to spreadsheets
- "Crib Sheet" of MS-Access basics: notes by Lulu Xue and Shan Jiang: rec2_database_datafile.pdf
- Creating personal geodatabases and connecting ArcMap to MS-Access databases in Lab #3, part III: Database Aggregation, SQL,and Charts
- Using R with Google APIs to access GPS traces of your travels
- Rida will explain the Google API and demonstrate the R-script: 11188GoogleTracks.html
- Depending on your project later in semester, you may use such scripts and APIs
