11.188/11.520 Labs #3:  In-Lab Notes on Sept. 20, 2010]

LAB #3: Spatial queries and joins
  (1) Compare Cambridge housing prices with the 
      socio-economics of the neighborhood
  (2) Add new columns to data tables
  (3) Merging, editing, saving data (e.g., to compute
      the percent with high school education)
  (4) Spatial joins to find neighborhood containing each sale
  (5) Buffering Mass Ave and comparing sales prices of 
      housing that is close/far

Homework grading:
  A. Lab #1 has been graded (check-minus, check, and check-plus).
  B. Some comments are being posted - review them to see what
     we want for a basic map to the readable and meaningful.
  C. We will not count lab #1 in the overall lab grade total.
     Use it as an indication of how we are reviewing the work
  D. Lab #2 deadline is extended 24 hours (to 2 pm tomorrow)
     so you can tweak your submission based on Lab #1 feedback


The extra lab times and reserved rooms are this week:

Fridays 10:30 - 1:30 in Room 37-312
Sunday,  4:00 - 7:00 in Room 37-312

NOTE: the Vassar St. entrance to Building 37 is locked on
weekends and evenings.  But, you can get to the lab from
neighboring buildings - including indoors from the 3rd
floor of Building 9.
