My name is Hillary Stanton and I am a student at MIT. I am taking a freshman class called Mission 2005, Solving Complex Problems. In this class, a group of 50 students has been charged with building an underwater research facility in the Belize Barrier Reef and creating an operational schedule for six months. Though this is purely hypothetical, our professor has urged us to act as though we were really building this apparatus by actually researching and planning. My group, Reef 9, is the Funding and Public Relations Group. Our job is to provide funding for the facility and create a public relations protocol. My reason for writing to you is to ask for any helpful funding information that you could give us. We are aware that your Institute dealt with the projects of Alvin and JJ and we were hoping you could give us some insight as to how that was funded and how you managed public relations.
