In the case of an emergency (in the habitat) in which a transport vehicle cannot be waited for, such as a fire or hull breach, the staff of the Atlantis One station are advised to:
- Notify the apropriate personel on shore that the station is being evacuated, and to send a pick up team.
- Locate all personnel: notify any people on submersibles that the station is being evacuated.
sumbersibles should stay at least 20 meters from the station to avoid injuring people with propellers.
- If the bottom floor is clear:
- Go to the bottom floor.
- Make sure everyone is accounted for.
- Put on diving equipment.
- Put on homing device.
- Exit through moon pool.
- If the bottom floor is not clear:
- Go to the top floor.
- Make sure everyone is accounted for.
- Put on diving equipment.
- Put on homing device.
- Seal inner wall of evacuation chamber.
- Let it fill with water.
- Exit through the top of the station.
- Once outside the station, personnel should:
- Not panic.
- Stay as close as possible to the station.
- Do not try to swim rapidly to the surface, this will cause the bends.
- Stay together.
- Remember that it will be 3 hours before a rescue team can arrive
- If a team isn't comming to pick you up:
- slowly proceed to the surface, exhaling as much as possible to reduce the problem of gas expansion in the lungs
