  • Well...this has been a very interesting term. Although I have not been extremely active over the last few weeks in researching the Amazon, I have received a full dose of teamwork, it's joys and tears. In light of the lack of new research material I can present here, I decided that a review of this year and the lessons I have learned would be appropriate. While not specifically research, this synopsis can still be found here in the "Current Research" section.

In any case, I'll see y'all around. Take care, it's been fun!

  • Hello. This week, most of my efforts are revolving around the creation of our team's characterization of the Amazon Rainforest. Some of the information that I am including in this document can be found on the "Current Research" page, or can be downloaded in Word format. To view our groups characterization of Amazonian land, please refer to our team's web page. The document will be available online late Friday night (November 1st) or early Saturday morning.

  • Bonjour (or bonsoir, depending on your timezone)! After a frustrating week/weekend I finally have the data set in a readable format! I have summarized the set-up of the data table as well as analyzed some of the facts and trends I have determined from reviewing the data. The spreadsheet lists over 1100 sites comprising over 5000 samples of over a dozen catagories (that's a lot of data!). Anyway, my synthesized conclusions can be viewed on the Current Research page. This week is titled "Characterizing the Land of the Amazon Rainforest."

  • Besides that, I quickly updated my link to Gustavo Negreiros' web page so that other Amazonian information can be accessed.

  • Hello again! I've updated my "Current Research" page with a synopsis of the research I have done to this point on Reforestation Strategies, including some of the latest issues about reforestation brought up at our team meeting. Hopefully this will be useful to the rest of my group and to Alt. Dev. and Flora as an indicator of the research I have "unearthed" over the past few weeks. My full research outline can be viewed by clicking on the appropriate date.

  • As well, I've added a link in the "Links" page to a data resource referred to me by Aaron Bell. These maps will be especially useful in our project's characterization of the Amazon. I am currently working to decode the raw data....

  • I have now put some real research up on my "Research" page. The focus of this week's research is once again reforestation/afforestation (see research for definitions) and I have outlined some basic reforestation, site preparation and species selection strategies that I found from my "Reforestation Basics" document.

  • As well, I began my review of another document on the use of forage plants on tropical farms. So far, I have found and defined what could very well be a critical defining point in any reforesation/afforestation attempts.

  • The "Research" Page has been updated with a brief overview (incl. documents) that I have been looking into over the past week. My topic of research has been partially redefined, and most of my research over this past week has revolved around "Reforestation Strategies" which will eventually focus in (probably) on the requirements of the soil for successful reforestation. To view my current "research" and the information I have posted, please click here.

  • On a side note, I added a new link to the "Links" page (i.e. JANUS Foundation).
