The water
system of the Amazon Basin Rainforest will best be protected by imposing and
enforcing stricter and more environmentally friendly mining and logging codes.
Also important is an efficient use of power resources. It is necessary to use
the hydroelectric dams in areas where they are likely to do the least damage,
and to supply power nearby. Funding could be directed towards developing
nuclear power plants that would be used to back up, and perhaps one day
replace, hydroelectric power.
