Team 3: Flora

Initial Research (Articles Found)

Flora Timetable:
Our group had decided to focus on specific aspects of our task during different weeks. We chose to spend the first two weeks (up until October 11) characterizing the flora of the rainforest and the factors that threaten it. Over the next four weeks, we will determine what we can do about these threats, and the last two weeks we will spend finalizing our presentation.

During the first two weeks, I studied natural and climatic factors that threaten the rainforest. The links below will take you to summaries I have compiled from papers on the subject.

Identifying natural threats to Amazon Flora (research from before 10-15-02):

1.) El-nino events and other alterations of rainfall

2.) Flooding

3.) Effects of climatic change on epiphytes

Monitoring Methods (10-20-02) (these pages will be subsequently updated):

1.) Links to sites for international forest sustainability and management

2.) Landscape surrogates in fragmented forest

(10 -28-02):

3.) Measuring understorey density and complexity

4.) Towers and Ameriflux

5.) Epiphytes as indicators

(11-11-02)

6.) Fragmentation

(12-9-02)

7.) Infrastructure plan
