Personal Mission for Mission 2007:
I  have always enjoyed math because of the clear division between right and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable. Problems outside the mathematical world, though, rarely have only polar solutions.  The question of what to do with the oil located in ANWR, which this year's Mission class addresses, certainly has no clear answer.  This uncertainty can be intriguing because of the discussion that necessarily arises as people disagree.  Composing a solution to this problem will be a refreshing change from working on problem sets and a practical exposure to a real life complex problem.
As a member of team 8, I will be investigating the economic impact of the different options regarding ANWR.  We plan to perform a cost/benefit analysis of each option .  In order to perform this analysis we will research  the potential ramifications from extracting the oil on local, national, and international scales.  (For a more detailed explanation of the specific issues and questions we plan to research, please visit our team web site.)  I am looking forward to both the information we find in our research and the end conclusion we draw, as I currently am partial to the preservation plan.
