Journal: Week of November 15, 2004 Click here to return to the journal main page. November 21, 2004 I started to write my soil proposal for the web site in the Terrascope room this afternoon. I also took a step back and made sure that we were accounting for all major aspects of the monitoring assignment and that our ideas agreed with the other two groups, representatives of which were also in the room. Back to Top November 20, 2004 Due to a volunteer program that I am involved in, I could not work on any Mission activities today. Back to Top Our coordination meeting consisted of three ten-minute presentations followed by a question session. The purpose of doing this was to limit confusion of the many ideas floating around within and among groups. All team members spoke briefly about their role. After the meeting, I was in the Terrascope room until 4 A.M. so that the monitoring group could better coordinate its efforts. I made sure that I knew most of what was happening within the monitoring group. Back to Top I worked more on the soil research, focusing on what needs to be done to a site before collecting samples. Back to Top I gave a brief five-minute overview of the monitoring group's progress to date to the section. Back to Top November 16, 2004 I worked a little on soil sampling techniques and the identification of sampling sites throughout the Galápagos, such as near the incineration plant on San Cristóbal, previously and currently used landfills, agricultural areas, and areas where there are endangered species, so that we know what type of soil they need in order to survive. My research (along with contributions from Anna) are summarized on our section site. Back to Top Now is the time to get serious, if one is not already. We have about two weeks left until our presentation and web site deliverables are due, and they have not yet been started. Our professor, along with our UTFs, helped us to create a strategy for the next few weeks, available in the minutes. |
