I took a break from Mission
activities. Next week, I plan to revise my web site since I have
not had a chance to do so for the past few weeks.

December 3, 2004
Today was our last class of
Mission. We had a discussion of our first semester experiences,
MIT history, and how our perspectives of this class have changed and
will change over time. We also completed class evaluation forms
and received long-sleeved shirts with our class name on them.
Over the past three months, I have made many connections with my peers,
some of which I suspect will last for a long time.

December 2, 2004 - Presentation Day
- Presentation dress rehearsal from 8 to 10 this
morning. Due to my lack of sleep lately, I slept throught the
first few minutes of this session. Fortunately, I am the last
person to present and did not hold back my peers from starting the
presentation. Some of them humerously thought that I had
died!
- From 10 to 6, I practiced my 15-minute talk to myself and
whoever else was willing to listen and give me feedback.
- I presented our entire monitoring system proposal in front
of the review panel, peers, professors, and other interested
individuals. The presenation was webcast live and has been
archived here.
I spoke from the 43-minute mark in the file to about the 56-minute
mark. Initially, the review panel made me nervous and I
stumbled over the first few lines, but after that I was more relaxed
and was able to present our information clearly.

December 1, 2004
- From midnight to 9 A.M., Lisa, Allison, and I finished the
monitoring system web site. I worked on the buoy, fish/fishing,
seismic, soil, and atmospheric write-ups. After one of the three
of us would finish a section, the other two would proofread it and then
the final revised version was sent to our webmaster Bryan, who would
add it to the section web site. Some of these areas listed above
were not mine, but we needed to get these covered in our proposal, so I
had to do the work of two to three people tonight.
- I slept for a few hours back in my dorm before coming back
slightly after lunch to work on the finishing touches to the monitoring
section's presentation.
- At 3:00, we had our last class meet before the
presentation, and during this time I made sure that the web site and
presentations were coming along with minimal difficulties and confusion
on what individuals' roles were. We assigned proofreaders for our
web site and that worked out well.
- At 7:00, we had a practice run through our presentation,
with a question and answer session at the end. Many people did
not show, but fortunately all of the presenters finally did. The
UTFs bought everyone pizza, which was a pleasant surprise. Our
alumni mentor Jessica also came to our presentation and provided me
with feedback. We scheduled a dress rehearsal for tomorrow at 8
A.M.

November 30, 2004
- From 4:30 to midnight, I was in the Terrascope room writing
proposals for various areas of our monitoring system, which I have a
short list of in my December 1 entry. Only four out of the eight
of us came to the room to work tonight, which was disappointing,
despite our intense efforts to get them motivated (i.e. phone calls,
going to their rooms).

- For most of 4:00 P.M. to around 1 A.M., I was in the
Terrascope room doing final research for my areas (soils, buoys, town
impacts). I also worked on the monitoring section's slide show,
which I presented to our professor and some UTFs this evening, who gave
us feedback on presentation style and format. We will
incorporate many of their suggestions into our presentation with the
little time that we have remaining. After the practice run, Lisa
from the monitoring group revised our slide show.
