Minimizing Impact-
- renewable resources-
- recycle/eliminate/minimize/reuse:
- self-containment- isolation
- minimize environmental footprint
- city dependent solely on city and not effect anything else
- location must be optimized
- minimize impact of farming animals
- why have livestock? eliminate need for it
- get rid of the goats or go somewhere else
- effects sources of food and income, livestyle
- but also remember political issues with any actions taken -> choose your
battles wisely
- use effectively "inert" building materials
- educate the natives about environment
- make the natives part of the decision-making process
- how to make this program succeed
- provide incentives to leave the galapagos and disincentives for moving to
the galapagos
- move the tourism economy -> move tourism workers (give tax breaks if
move)
- but tourism = money = political power
Idealized Village:
- arguments against seperate island:
- each island have specific species
- concentrate pollution
- consider their society already built there
- use example of US nat'l parks, kicking out ppl
- people would still go to non-populated islands
- for seperate island city
- already airforce base
- was once part of santa cruz so have same species
- or floating city
- less environmental impact
- more impact on water, less on land
- but expansion problems
- probs with el nino
- waste distribution into the ocean?
- if drown-> very bad impact on ocean
- limit increasing residents
- and enforce it!
- make less incentives (less subsidies, why are they there and what are
they for anyways?)
- desalination facilities can be floating and can go from island to island
