Website group is mostly from the sensors group. We will not be sending anyone
to help work.
Presentors from our group will be decided later.
Efficient Use of Space-
- no report, wasn't here Friday
Transportation-
- few cars, but lots of mopeds
- exchange system: trade in old mopeds and cars for new hybrid, environmentally
friendly vehicles
- need to be viable as vehicles used by villagers: how and where will
they get the power for it, can they use it
- hybrids: energy cells, CNG (compressed natural gas), hydrogen, methane
- a lot of subsidies (so villagers won't have to put in a lot of money)
- nicer roads that will cause less pollution
- need to sterilize boats between islands and mainland to ensure no rats,
invasive species, etc. -> regulate
Waste-
- auqeous waste: solaraquatic system is efficient, treatment capacity from
100-20k people -> pure clean water; tested in the US
- collect waste and transport to other places with landfills, but how to transport?
- need waste management, collection people
- collect organic waste (biomass) to be used as fuel for energy
- pre-recycling- already smash cans and such before transportation
- put the factory underground?
Energy:
- solar energy:
- cheap, flexible solar cells: power efficiency- 16%, cover one house
roof and supply power for 1400 homes, very durable
- wind energy:
- one big windmill per tall building in Alaska
- biomass:
- save for when no wind nor sun
- educate the natives on conserving power (turn off the lights)
Regulations:
- tourism- need to certify industries to allow to bring tourists, only certain
places where can go, certify that tourists are educated on how to be nice
- waste- how to collect, how to make sure no dumping
- trasportation- road rules,
- economy-
- fishing: individual transferable quotas (in use in New Zealand, etc.),
but might lead to black market, control prices
Education:
- several schools already on every island, TV already pretty good
- need to teach fishermen, classes for license to fish
- teach farmers how to best farm with least environmental influence
- all citizens need education
- children go to free school and get free lunch
- tourists already educated by travel agencies
- education on limited resources
