A brief article about how new levee and flood control systems are being installed to York, Great Britain, due to extensive flood damages in 2000 and flooding in New Orleans. Development costs are indicated to be over £2.0m, and the new system will be composed of interlocking barriers with rubber, leak-proof sealants. The contract will go out to AquaBarrier-Systems Ltd., as discussions are going on right between this firm and the York City Council. Construction is expected to begin end of 2006, and the conclusion is that, even though this is a custom engineering project, the technologies applied can be used in other locations.
