Land Management

1. Current Utilization and future prospects of water resources of the Yellow River
Bai Zhaoxi, Reconnaissance Planning and Design Institute, Yellow River Conservancy Commission, People¡¯s Republic of China

Yellow River ranks first in the sediment load in China. It is also marked by its uneven distribution of water and sediment. The water resource in it is vital for the north part of China. Three major use of it are: irrigation, industrial and domestic use and power development. Runoff in the Yellow River is characterized by its uneven spatial and temporal distribution. So multi-purpose engineering measures will be constructed.

2. Land Management
This article tells us about the way of land management. Land management is aimed at maintain the harmony and stability in the ecosystem. It has three ways to reduce the flood damage: 1, improvement of tilth and structure 2, the same improvement plus the protective effect of vegetation on the soil surface 3, reduce erosion losses It states the fundamental relationships among land use, vegetation and the flow of water and sediment from the land. Control of plants is quite important. Control of grazing is most important on range land while control of fire, cutting on a sustained-yield basis and soil-conserving logging practices are most important on timber management. Soil amendments are also added to improve crop yields so that to contribute to water retardation.
