AA Baggage Info

Passengers are permitted a total of 3 free items when traveling. No item may exceed 62 total inches (length + width + height) and no item may weigh more than 70 pounds. The maximum size accepted as a carry-on may measure no more than 55 total inches (length + width + height) and weigh 70 pounds or less. No more than 2 items will be accepted as carry-on baggage. These items must fit underneath the seat or in the overhead bin. The space underneath the seat measures approximately 23"x 13"x 9". Garment bags, briefcases, laptop computers, and collapsible luggage carts will all be considered carry-on items. Military personnel *may* substitute a duffel bag, "sea bag" or " B-4 bag" or military footlocker for the 62 inch bag.

Excess baggage is considered any item up to 62 inches that exceeds the 3 bag allotment. For the first 3 items in excess, there will be a charge of $45.00 each. For the next 3 items, the charge increases to $65.00 each and for the seventh and any additional item the charge will be $130.00 each. If an item is in excess of the 3 free items and is oversized and/or overweight, the applicable excess fee will apply in addition to the applicable fees for oversize and/or overweight.

Example 1 excess item $45.00 1 excess oversized item $90.00 1 excess item that is oversized and overweight $135.00.

All charges are calculated each way and are collected at the airport ticket counter. The maximum size and weight of any one item acceptable is 115 inches and 100 pounds. Any item larger will have to be shipped via cargo.

Any portable musical instrument not exceeding 39 inches may be substituted for the 55 or 62 inch bag in the free allotment. If this item is in excess of the free allotment then excess charges will apply. Bass fiddles and cellos require the purchase of a ticket or must be checked.
