Data and Models is an introduction to inversion (or parameter estimation) techniques that are useful to the practising scientist and engineer. The course introduces most of the commonly used techniques and culminates in a term project. The goal of the course is to develop intelligent users who are, well versed in the basics of the popular techniques, have strong insight in using and interpreting the results and can choose the technique that is most appropriate for the application. The course combines basic theory with programming exercises that include coding some of the algorithms and also using preprogrammed routines.
