Reviews recent theoretical and empirical developments about income inequality and redistribution. How well do various distribution theories manage to explain the general increase in inequality since the 1970's? What are the right instruments to reduce inequality? Is there a trade-off between inequality and growth? Why are the politics of income redistribution so different across countries? The course will present papers from various fields: growth theory, economic history, labor economics, and formal political theory.
