16.30 Spring 2006

    The focus of this course is design and implementation of dynamic controllers for aerospace and other systems. Your objective should be to learn how to perform frequency domain control system design in the context of requirements and specifications as they are typically stated and quantified, to understand robustness issues arising in control system analysis and design, and to understand the limitations and special considerations that arise in applications. Implementation of controllers in digital systems, the use of state space methods for estimation and control, and the effects and methods for handling various physical phenomena (time delays, rate limits, nonlinearities, etc.) will be considered in detail. Techniques for analysis and design in a nonlinear setting, including describing functions and phase plane analysis, will also be discussed.
