OPERATIONS

Procedures/Timelines/English Form 24

English Form 24 for Wednesday and Thursday were submitted but not uplinked. Preliminary timelines have been received for Wednesday and Thursday.

 EXPERIMENT OPERATIONS

CGEL

Mike told us again today that CGEL is producing counts of more than
3000. Mike also reported that during today's video run, when the
light cover was on and it was totally dark inside, he could still see an image on the screen. The sample looked the brightest and the Bragg screen looked the second brightest. He believes the camera to be infrared and is worried that when the aperture is fully open, the video will be washed out. The ground then informed Mike that the camera is very IR. sensitive.
Today's CGEL took Mike 4 hours. Most of it was general setup of
photography. Mike could not find any crystals in sample 7, so he
took photos of sample 5. He reports the process will take 1.5 hours just getting the setup right. If he has to tear down the photo setup each time, then it will probably add another hour.
On sample 7, Mike reported that it had a cloudy colloidal
suspension, but the colloid was spherical, kind of lumpy bits when
compared to crystals. When shining a light straight through it, he said it had a lumpy appearance to the naked eye. When he shined a light from the side, he didn't see anything except a cloudy suspension.
When asked how the electric mixer for CGEL is working, Mike
reported it was OK for samples 6 and 7, but was tough on samples
3 and 4.

Mike was told to re-use any Beesticks not yellow from previous
pollination. Mike then informed us he recommends ending pollination
after today because there is only one flower, the rest are all
siliques. Tomorrow he'll perform daily ops with photo, Thursday
will be fixation.

 EXPERIMENT HARDWARE

TEHOF

Last Thursday the TEHOF was reported to be -15.4C. On Friday Mike was
asked about the temperature and any TEHOF activity. He told us there
had been no activity involving the TEHOF since the blood tubes were
placed in it several days earlier. Mike then reported the temperature
to be -15.6C. The next scheduled TEF/TEHOF call down is scheduled for this Thursday.

SAMS

Mike reported that SAMS ran all night. He changed disk 1 and turned over
disk 2. SAMS was turned off after undocking at approximately 1400 DMT.

EDLS

The IFM was not performed today due to the delay in the Progress M
undocking and the time required to complete the CGEL activities.

Stowage/Transfer -No Issues

SMP/Medical

Mike performed a charge of the MAS battery in preparation for tomorrow's
MAS sampling session.

Mike called down the following values for CPA:
	CO	1.0
	HCL	0.2
	HCN	0.1

MIR SYSTEMS

Life Support

The crew located the cables for the new Elektron over the weekend, and
performed a brief power cycle test on Sunday. During the test, the
crew received an erroneous indication on their system status panel
that the solenoid-operated hydrogen valve was open. The valve, which
is used to dump to vacuum the hydrogen resulting from the hydrolysis
reaction, should be closed, and a separate telemetry indication showed it was closed. The crew cleaned a connection the ground believed was causing the mal indication. Afterward the indicator blinked or periodically cycled. The next step will be for the crew to more thoroughly clean the suspect connection with an alcohol solution, but Mr. Antoshechkin stated that this will not happen until after all activities associated with the arrival of the next Progress have been completed.

Progress-M34 Undocking

The Progress undocking was delayed from 0840 DMT until 1320 DMT due to
ground configuration problems. Because of this delay, Mir Flight
Management decided not to perform the Inspector fly-around, as the
fly-around for the later undocking time had not been simulated.
Instead the Progress-M was separated by ground command and after one
small separation burn, Progress M34 is station-keeping at a 30-35 km
range from Mir. The redocking sequence will be executed tomorrow,
per the nominal plan. After a three burn rendezvous sequence,
the Progress-M will be redocked under TORU control. Docking is
scheduled for 1220 DMT.
