Problem T1.
(Unified Thermodynamics)
Below is a
schematic of liquid propellant (methane and oxygen),
regeneratively-cooled, turbopump-pressurized micro-rocket designed by Adam
London (MIT, PhD Thesis, 2000).
The schematic on the left shows the overall architecture of the rocket
engine. The schematic on the right
shows the details of the coolant passages for the fuel and oxidizer. The schematic on the bottom shows the
principal of operation (you can learn more about this kind of rocket engine by
researching turbo-expander cycles).
Describe the conversions of energy (internal, potential, kinetic and chemical) and exchanges of heat and work for this system. (LO#1, LO#2, LO#3)
