Prof. Edelman mentions in the problem set that "timing is
tricky on xolas." What is the best way to go about it? Currently,
I am using the second() library function, which returns a
double precision value that is supposedly the total CPU time
(in seconds) used by all CPU's. It seems to give reasonable results.
Is there some problem with this?

    Cordially,
    Steven G. Johnson
