Project Materials

In general, your team is responsible for purchasing needed materials from your project budget. However, some common materials that are needed by all teams will be stocked in the Pappalardo lab, as noted below.

Foam core for the 3-ideas presentation : 6 sheets of foam core will be provided.

Starter supplies for sketch models: A starter allocation of foam and foam core will be placed in each project workspace. If the initial allocation is insufficient, the team should procure more materials using their project budget.

Surplus motors and components: Dick Fenner has a variety of used motors and components that can be very handy for mockups and tests. Use must be negotiated with Dick.

Machine Screws: A cabinet in the lab will be stocked with a variety of socket head cap screws. All teams may use this resource. If you note anything running low you should let lab staff know. It is the responsibility of the project teams to monitor the availability of fasteners.

Sheet ABS and Kydex for thermoforming: Sheet plastic will be available in the lab ranging from 1/16" to 1/8 inch thick. It is possible to vacuum from up to 1/4" thick material in the shop. This material will be provided by the course. Teams should let lab staff know what they will be needing at least a week in advance so materials can be ordered if necessary. Otherwise, shortfalls may occur.

Sheet Urethane Foam: A very expensive material that is great for making moulds for vacuum forming. We have 4" thick sheets. If your team will need large quantities of the material please let the course instructor know at least two weeks in advance. Otherwise, shortfalls may occur.
