Matlab is a numerical computational and visualization tool. You can solve equations numerically with matlab, plot results, and fully program within matlab.

Starting Matlab

To start Matlab, do one of the following:

Type in an Xterm:
```
add matlab; matlab & 
```
Or using the mouse, go to Dash (the blue bar at the top of your screen), click down the menu in the following order:
1. Numerical/Math
2. Analysis and Plotting
3. MATLAB
4. Yes

There is far more help material on matlab than we will provide in these pages.

For help with matlab on athena, you can go to Athena's Matlab Support. You can also get this from within matlab by typing doc at the matlab prompt. This will start up a web browser.

Also, Mathworks, the company which produces Matlab, is also on the Web.
