Control Panel

The train's cockpit is mounted on springs and a hydraulic lift. If (when) the visitors fail, the lift will release and the floor will drop a short distance onto the stiff springs. Combined with noise and lighting effects, this shaking will provide clear feedback that either the train crashed or time expired and the nuclear plant exploded.
