Minesweeper Off My Feet
An escape room by The Great S-Cape
In the game of minesweeper, the buttons that the player clicks will spread a patch of tiles where there are no mines, with each of the tiles around the border of this spread colored with number that tells the player how many mines are adjacent to that tile. The goal is for the player to use this information to deduce which tiles do not have mines in them and continue to click through to other tiles. The challenge in this exhibit is to find a way to do that in a low-cost and technically feasible manner. The first option, presented here in two versions, is to utilize simple LEDs that will light up to indicate the number of mines adjacent to the tile. The more complex version has the LEDs alight in the shape of the actual number, while the second version has 8 LEDs, and the number of LEDs lit up indicates the number of adjacent mines.
