Top Shelf

Questions Explored

  • How do we make it look realistic?
  • Does the light signify to the player to interact with that item?

This top shelf was designed to look like a basic, boring grocery store shelf. A basic, boring beige color was chosen for the shelf itself, and standard grocery store items were chosen as the food items. Price tags were added for each grocery item to make the whole thing more realistic (and each price tag is different from the other, in an attempt to the 2.5D effect). The transparent aspects of the food items were sprayed with frosted glass spray paint to give the lights that were placed inside the food a more diffused look. Blue light was chosen as the light on the inside of the food items because it would jump out at the player more than white light -- as this is especially important because these lights will be high up. Finally, no buttons on the food items were added as most users said that they would prefer a force pad sensor rather than a super obvious button.

Moving forward, the items on the shelf will probably be placed closer together, as currently they look a bit too spaced out. Furthermore, depending on how bright the room at Open World will be, the brights inside might need to be even brighter, especially considering this shelf will be high up in the room.
