The Techni-Mitt adds an academic dimension to cooking. Thermodynamically-minded users can view read-outs of the mitt’s surface temperature, Biot number, and thermal energy. While the temperature readout is the most useful of the three measurements, the other thermodynamic calculations are thought-provoking and intriguing to guests. The mitt could be explained simply to an interested on-looker, giving the user an opportunity to impress guests with a quick review of thermodynamics (included in the mitt’s instruction manual). The properties are displayed along thermochromatic strips of fabric that change from yellow to a bright red, depending on the temperature of the exterior of the mitt.
