Comments on function-related aspects

Client 1:

How do you plan to manufacture the steel barrels? Are these completely custom fabricated or can they be made from existing barrels? Have you tested the LEDs? A few component LEDs around the base most likely wont be as bright as you'd like.

Your crank assembly won't function as drawn. What is constraining the rod axially? You need shaft collars on one or both ends. Right now the hex nut isn't tightening against anything either. As drawn the wheel will spin freely on the shaft and the entire shaft can be pulled through the wall. The technique of using the magnet and reed switch to sense rotation will work great though.

Have you done research into the field of vision for the motion sensors? These won't be able to be mounted directly to the wall as is as they have a cone of vision with a wide angle of view. They will need to be masked to function as intended.

I assume the electrical 'schematic' is essentially a detailed block diagram, but there are many pieces missing for powering components and limiting current. The crank should be connected to a digital pin to correspond with the reed switch sensing.

Not really sure what parts you exactly worked on, but overall the CAD answers a lot of questions regarding the feasibility of design and integration. The progress you guys have made on the electronics is promising, and actual implementation into the final design shouldn't be too difficult given this. Nice work overall, I would have gone more in depth on individual parts if I knew what you worked on, but just wanted to give some general comments for all of them as I didn't know which specific parts you did.

Reviewer 3:

this looks like a really functional and well thought out design. I like that you included the foam to help protect people if they fall. I may have missed it, or it may not be in your scope, but how are you planning on telling if people loose or fall of of the barrels, or step on them at the wrong time? I like that crank design and it seems well planned out.

Reviewer 4:

The CAD model explains the mechanical functionality of the barrel model. It's a great model already, but I think if a simple prototype can be built to test the lighting effect would be even greater because right now, I don't know how would the LED light surrounding the barrel can create an effect of gradually increasing intensity. If instead, all the LEDs are placed inside the barrel and the amount of the LED being lit up might have a better effect.

Comments on form-related aspects

Client 1:

The drawings and renderings are easy to understand and pleasing to the eye. They communicate intent well.

Reviewer 3:

The form looks really good here. I like the cranks and can easily imagine them fitting in with the theme. I also like the look of the yellow barrels and the blue foam. I wonder if you thought about adding led light strips to the bottom of the barrel or all the way around it, like going to the top, so that the whole thing can really shine green when it become radioactive.

Reviewer 4:

The rendering of the barrel does a good job of illustrating the functionality of the barrel, and the exploded view of the crank shows the details involved in the model.
