Client 1:

I'm happy to see this level of refinement in a concept sketch - nicely done.

My one outstanding question here is whether this design allows for more than one ball to occasionally escape down the chute - for example, if the motor is delayed for some reason and the arm doesn't come down neatly in front of the next ball, will the servo motor "win" that battle, or will the ball's momentum allow it to escape?

I think that the code can be made resilient enough that that will be a minor problem if it ever occurs, but you will want to test it when you build your prototype.

A programming note: you will want to make sure you handle the case where a group does not get in their last throw before they leave. You don't want to release the starter ball for the group that follows if one is already in the tray.

The ball release mechanisms looks like it can be made largely out of standard and/or lightly-machined components, which is great for fabrication and future maintenance.

One worry is about the initial funneling of balls from the corner of the grid into the pvc piping. At least as shown in the solidworks model, it seems like there's a corner where balls may be likely to get stuck.

I like this design a lot: it is simple and should be easily repeatable. I think it might be worth exploring some other options for releasing one ball at a time using either other actuators or other techniques. From a manufacturing standpoint, this seems simple enough to execute which is very nice. One consideration might involve player intereference with the mechanism. As it is in these images, it might be possible for a player to grab the bar once it rotates up and hold it there which might break the servo and the mechanism as a whole.

The servo motor latch release system looks easy to build, assemble, and repair. It also looks durable, which is really important. Excited to see a working prototype. Will the servo motor spin fast enough back to the "lock" position to keep more than one ball from falling?

I liked the detail of your model and how you thought about not only the release mechanism, but how the tube will be placed. I think the assembly of your device also looks reasonable to do within the timeline of this class. Overall a well done explanation.

Comments on form-related aspects

Client 1:

These are nice 3D renders. The metal textures look pretty good. The powder-coating is pretty difficult to pinpoint. Maybe a little bit more roughness to the texture would help contrast it from just a plain matte texture.

The rendering is very professional. However, it would be good to think further about the aesthetics of the ball return device. As it is, it looks very utilitarian. As a next step, it would be great to see a rendering of what it might look like "dressed up" in the battleship theme.

Very cold/sharp/clean cut "C1" form design of the gun turret, yet also reads "old". I guess that is the right aesthetic if you are trying to match the battleship game! The rendering did not work for me on both Safari and Chrome unfortunately.

I think the rending and aesthetics for your game were very well done and thought out. You paid close attention to construction details (on the backend) while also making sure the part of the gag in the room (turret) was nicely rendered and constructed.
