Whiteboard Desk concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

Brent, I like this idea and actually came up with the same concept when taking 2.009 last semester. I don't know if you knew about it or not, but we made a sketch model of what we were envisioning, here's the link: http://web.mit.edu/2.009/www/grading/sketchModelReview/sketch_redA.html . I think in terms of feasibility, this product is very feasible, but the tough part will be the implementation. In 2.009 we confronted people with our idea and people did not know if they needed a table that also has a whiteboard or not. Other potential customers we looked at were coffee shops like starbucks.

STORYBOARD: I think the storyboard shows the need for the product but I believe with a few more detailed sketches and perspective sketches you guys could have made a bigger impact on the viewer.

Reviewer 2:

I like both the concept and the implementation.

I could definitely envision myself using this product extensively.

I only see two major problems.

The first is that each individual might not have enough space to pull out an entire whiteboard from under their desk, and comfortably work on it.

The second is that many times, paper is used because people want to keep records of what they wrote up.

It would be really cool if you could put a scanner under the desk, so as you slid the whiteboard back in place, whatever was on the whiteboard got scanned in, and was accessible as a JPEG on the user's computer.

I also really like the fact (even if this was unintentional) that I can draw with the dry-erase markers on the glass on top of the whiteboard, to make temporary self-notes.

The design appears to be easily feasible.

some more thought to user experience would be good, how does white board pop up or slide out? are there easy grip handles?

what is the desk made of?

Easy Packaging concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

Surprisingly enough, a member in my 2.009 group also had this same exact idea. After researching however we found out that there are standard sizes for packing products and I believe these sizes are chosen so that the boxes fit in the delivery truck in the most optimal way, but I may be wrong. It seems like implementing a product like this might take more work than just engineering the problem. Nevertheless, what you're proposing is a good idea and I think it is feasible for this class, and it will definitely save a lot of wasted cardboard.

STORYBOARD: I really like the storyboard. It is plain and simple and does not even involve any sketches of humans. I also like how at the last slide you guys color coated the staples box green and left the amazon box gray.

Reviewer 2:

This is an interesting idea.

I like how you used the excess material that was cut from the box as packaging material.

This appears to be a very eco-friendly idea, which is very appealing.

I don't know if Staples makes their own boxes. I'd be interested to see what Staples thinks of this design.

I would assume that there is very little difference between the user interface (folding the boxes) of your design and the current packaging process.

I can definitely see potential in this design, depending on Staples' current packaging process.

I'm also not entirely sure how you would implement the custom-box-cutting apparatus.

This sketch could benefit from more detail to help me understnd the feasibility of it all and how the steps in the process would take place. i like the idea of the scrap shredded for packaing material.

Staples Spaces concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

Brent, I don't really understand your sketch. I saw the storyboard and understand the concept, but not quite the sketch. Is this like a table with screens that someone would purchase or would this be located in the Staples Spaces stores? Anyhow, I like the idea of Staples Spaces. In terms of feasibility I'm not sure how you would best implement this, seems like a lot of work. I think users, especially ones that want to start a start-up would love something like this.

STORYBOARD: Like I said before the storyboard makes a lot of sense and i understand what the user need is. I guess with your concept, it seems like you're not really creating a product, but a service instead, no? I like the concept.

Reviewer 2:

I didn't understand what you were suggesting from your concept sketch.

From my understanding of the product from the storyboard:

This idea is amazing.

I've been interested in entrepreneurship for a while, and I could definitely see this being of interest to a number of people.

I don't know how much it would end up costing, and I'm not sure how well it fits into the eco-friendly theme of the class, but I would personally be very interested in this if it were to be implemented.

However, I don't know if Staples would be very interested in this idea, as this is somewhat outside the boundary of their normal business.

I think there is potential with this idea, but not necessarily within this class, and not necessarily with Staples.

I am not clear from the sketch how this works

Overall concept sketch clarity and presentation

Reviewer 1:

I think the sketches were clear and informative. The website is well organized and I was able to navigate to each person's sketches because of the tabs at the top of the page. I think an explanation or caption below each sketch would have worked for me because for the last sketch, the Staples Spaces, if I had not looked at the storyboard I wouldn't have understood what your product was.

Reviewer 2:

The concept sketches were beautiful.

Unfortunately, I had to stare at the "easy packaging" concept sketch for about 3 minutes before finally understanding what you were trying to suggest.

I didn't understand your "staples spaces" concept sketch at all.

You obviously put a lot of time and effort into your sketches, but you need to either make sure that the sketch is self-explanatory, or write up some sort of description.

The purpose of the concept sketch is to convey your idea.

If I don't understand your idea from your concept sketch, then it's not doing its job.

good ideas but needs more exploration in 2D...additional product views, ideation, and notes, etc...
