room layout concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

This seems like a perfectly feasible room layout; the engine is large enough to be the center of attention, but it looks like there is enough room for many guests to move around and enough other stuff to occupy multiple guests. It doesn't seem like anything too special, but it is functional enough.

Reviewer 2:

The room looks big and includes many tasks.

This will engage a large group and give them room to move.

(At the same time, the way the tasks are set up they can be reduced to tailor the adventure to a smaller group.)

Reviewer 3:

The room looks really nice. You have enough detail in there so that it's interesting, but not so much that people would be very confused by it. The room reminds me of engine rooms in large cargo ships.

It would obviously be on of the more expensive rooms that 5 wits might have to produce. Though, if it is their centerpiece, it would be worth it.

Reviewer 4:

The dark color of the room really help participants engage with their activities. However i think you need to carefully consider the safety associated with a dark room and sharp corners

Client 5:

This room looks awesome -- you have captured one potential look for the space very nicely.

I particularly like the "engine."

the engine concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

The written description helps sell the fact that users can interact with the engine and trigger its ignition, as well as the idea that special effects will occur upon its being fixed. The design involves fitting one cylinder into a hole, which does not involve very many guests.

Reviewer 2:

The tasks involving the engine seem like great challenges for people of different ages, especially since they can be tailored to the group level.

I was a bit confused by the actual sketch though and I do not see how the cylinder fits into the engines.

Reviewer 3:

The direction the engine takes is a plausible departure from the space theme.

From a human factors perspective, I am skeptical that people will know how yo interact with it and you'll just end up having to explain where to put items every time. And the resetting mechanism seems like it might just plop items right in front of where they should be placed.

Reviewer 4:

the engine look very futuristic and non-conventional. the activity also seem to allow multiple people to engage.

Client 5:

This is a very cool prop.

Incorporating game elements into it, in a meaningful and intuitive way, will be the key to it's success.

command center and pipe system concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

This are also simple puzzles which do not involve many guests at a time. However, they are in keeping with the motif and perfectly functional.

One concern is that this series of concept sketches involves producing an entire room worth of stuff; is this really something your group can produce prototypes for in the course of this class?

Reviewer 2:

I am not sure how the group will complete the gas flow and data-box challenges.

However the layout of this area of the room again addresses the need for more room to spread out large groups, and more challenges to engage large groups.

Reviewer 3:

The simplicity here goes a long way I think. There is so much going on in the room that the controls and other things need to be simplified so that patrons don't end up becoming confused.

I think the concept is totally feasible, but I would be careful making things more difficult by making the frequencies harder to match. It may just make some people frustrated.

Reviewer 4:

there seem to be enough activities that could satisfy a large group. How would to make it not too challenging for a smaller group?

Client 5:

I like a lot of these ideas.

The frequency thing could be cool.

Among all your concepts, I think I would suggest focusing on the engine, both as a prop and as a "reassemble the engine and get the ship running" puzzle.

I can see that being a winner.

Overall concept sketch clarity and presentation

Reviewer 1:

The quality of the drawings and annotations is excellent; what is happening is very clear, not to mention aesthetically pleasing.

Reviewer 2:

These sketches are amazing! Great job with the shading especially.

The overall room idea that was presented was very well planned out, and each element was thoroughly discussed.

My only complaint would be that there was a lot of writing- I would have preferred a few sentences or even bullet points with each sketch.

Reviewer 3:

The drawings are really outstanding. They covey just enough detail and are very well shaded.

I'm not sure if this is due to the paper used, but there is an odd haze on the drawings which I personally find distracting.
