space door design concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

Interesting design concept and well drawn.

Feasibility will be up to the group really in terms of how they can try to implement it.

Client 2:

I like this idea a lot -- cool doors really help to make the adventure memorable, and your goal of inspiring 'awe' is a good one!

Reviewer 3:

I think this feels like a door that I would imagine in some futuristic spacecraft.

I think the multi-layer effect would be important to keep so it's not like any door.

While more difficult, a twisting pattern for one layer opening might add a neat experience.

I think the material and feel of the door would be important- something sleek.

Doors are a really cool way to go.

Reviewer 4:

I liked the look of the door and the fact that you drew it partway open already. Nice use of perspective here. It would be good to see the size of a person compared to the door.

Making multiple panels actuate separately could be very cool -- we've never tried a door like that.

I'd recommend air cylinders for linear actuation -- we have compressed air run all over the show, and most doors use air pressure to operate.

It has several advantages -- clean, safe, longer life span that electric actuators, quiet, able to easily regulate the pressure that the door can close with, and in the event of a power loss, all doors are plumbed to automatically open (using the air pressure that remains in the air tank at the compressor), which is a useful safety feature.

Reviewer 3:

I think explaining the sound here is important, its the sound and other effects(air, temperature etc) that could make or break this idea.

I like the series on the right hand side of this sketch to show how the mechanical addition would work.

It seems feasible to me.

Again, I woudl focus on the sound and "feeling" of the door.

Reviewer 4:

Communicates clearly the actuation design and how it would look behind the different door parts. I would be concerned if these would all fit together behind the door / what it would look like from behind.

Client 2:

Designing an awesome set of motions is the key to success with this one.

That and, of course, a super robust, durable design.

Pieces nesting into one another could look very cool.

Reviewer 3:

Very clear to understand what would happen in this case, the arrows and description make it very easy to understand.

I can see this happening.

Seems super implementable and definitely embodies the 5wits type experience.

I know the cool doors are something I love at 5wits.

I think I might be missing something? They were to be 3 versions of one item or 3 items and this seems like all 1 version of 1 item?

I might be navigating the website wrong?

I liked the ease of use and simplicity of the website, great work.
