robot arm concept sketch comments

Client 1:

The robot arm in a fun concept.

Make sure that controlling your "arm" gets as many people involved as possible.

You don't want one person hogging the controls!

Reviewer 2:

I don't understand the role of the robot arm in the overall storyboard concept- some context would have been great.

Good sketch though and nice idea to have the visitors program the arm themselves.

Reviewer 3:

I agree that a robot arm can have a high WOW factor, and it is feasible to implement an arm to grab something.

I am definitely a fan of the idea that the users program the arm to perform its task; this way, the users themselves can vary the complexity.

The problem with this concept is that it is very hard to design a way for more than one guest at a time to use an arm; this keeps me from rating it as outstanding.

Client 4:

Everyone loves a robot arm!

This could be a fun programming challenge for the group, and could be part of a larger compelling storyline.

power cell concept sketch comments

Client 1:

The power cell has a nice visual look, but what powers is?

Is it on batteries?

Does it need to be constantly recharged (in real life)?

Also keep in mind that electronics that guests can hold in their hands get dropped, thrown, bumped, etc.

Reviewer 2:

This is an interesting design for the power cell, not what I expected from reading over the original storyboard.

Some more thought could have been put into the internal workings of the power cell and how the LEDs will be powered or how the power cells would insert into the wall.

There is also the factor of human use (and misuse) that could have been considered since the people at 5W!TS have reminded us that visitors often abuse anything they can get their hands on.

Reviewer 3:

Charging a power cell is not a particularly exciting idea and has certainly been used before in many setting. However, it is consistent with the motif and can be the result of many different puzzles. Moreover, unlike the robot arm, tasks which involve charging a power cell can potentially involve many guests.

Client 4:

I like the idea of the power cell a lot.

These could be made to look very cool.

I don't know how to do it, but it would be ideal if they were passive props -- no batteries inside.

Dealing with batteries, recharging, etc is an operational challenge -- I'm open to it (we've done it before) but if you can find a solution that looks cool without batteries, even better.

Perhaps they just light up when placed in the power station?

power station concept sketch comments

Client 1:

The power station looks like a very science fiction kiosk, but make sure there is a "game" in there.

Add a puzzle, physical challenge, etc.

Reviewer 2:

This was a great visualization of how the power station could look and how the user would interact with it.

I like that it will clearly show the power level of each power cell and also display the physical power cells.

Will the LEDs on the power cells be at all visible once they are inserted?

It might be cool if visitors also get an audio feedback as they insert full cells (powering up sound) and maybe even a negative feedback if they insert uncharged cells.

Reviewer 3:

The concept of putting charged power cells into a station is a nice touch, and can involve multiple guests by requiring them to form a production line of sorts to charge and insert cells.

However, it again is a concept without much of a WOW factor.

Moreover, I wonder at how this can be self-resetting; your sketch and explanation would have benefited from a description of how the power cells can be discharged from the station.

Client 4:

This is neat, and I like the idea of swapping around cells to get the power level up.

Could this play into a game somehow -- maybe you can't tell which cells are charged by site, you need to "test" them and arrange them in order of charge, or some other game mechanic...

Overall concept sketch clarity and presentation

Client 1:

Very nice job with simple, but clean drawings!

Reviewer 2:

Carmen's sketches and clear but I think some more work could have been done in the description for the robot arm concept to explain the context and purpose of the arm.

Reviewer 3:

The sketch of the arm was very good; it was clear and easy to view.

The other sketches were a little more simplistic. Some color around lit LEDs would have given them an impression of being works in progress and would have made it easier to tell how the cells/station worked. As it was, the sketches were heavily and unnecessarily dependent on the annotations.

Client 4:

Nice clean sketches, good heavy lines, clear annotations, well done.
