broken engine concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

The idea of a broken engine is nothing new, of course, but the fact that similar situations are used everywhere is indicative of its potential and entertainment value.

There are issues with the engine as shown in the sketch, though. I have trouble seeing how you can automate varying complexity depending on the number of guests; the control room will have to do a lot of work to stay on top of it.

Client 2:

This is still a neat idea -- the devil will be in the details -- what is actually happening in the engine, what do guests do?

How robust and intuitive can that be designed?

Reviewer 3:

Interesting concept.

It's a little hard to tell how big this engine would be.

Could a lot of people work on the engine at the same time?

You would need to be concerned about all the small parts.

You don't want them getting lost.

The assembly also has to be robust and not super finicky.

Consider making the engine visibly work once it's been repaired.

It could give a "wow" factor that would make people proud of their work.

Reviewer 4:

Interesting design concept and well drawn.

Feasibility will be up to the group really in terms of how they can try to implement it.

Reviewer 5:

The sketch looks really cool and real. There's a lot of potential to it however, one thing that I can't grasp from the picture is how the parts on the ground fits into the broken engine to fix it. With the description it does appear that there will be really good human experience though.

laser welding concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

The idea is nice in that a faux laser welding gun can be used by all ages and is easy to understand if people are given an automated explanation.

However, it may be too simplistic; it does not really provide the users with a challenge and does not demonstrate a high WOW factor. The only way to vary the complexity of the task, according to the description, is by varying engine sections in the control room, something which is difficult to automate.

Client 2:

I like the idea of laser welding a lot -- could be a cool effect, visually, and a neat dexterity challenge.

Reviewer 3:

This idea is pretty cool and innovative.

I can see how it could look really cool with leds that change brightness.

I would have liked to also see a concept for the laser welding gun, as well as making the engine look more like an engine.

I don't see how switching sections that need to be welded would make it more difficult.

Is the difficulty just more welding needing to be done?

Reviewer 5:

What is shown is a really good map of broken parts of the engine. It really helps bring a view that the engine is broken and they are to fix it and ignite all the lines on the map. There's a lot of potential to it however one of the comments that I saw earlier about a storyboard was that the idea of having guns my not be acceptable with kids coming to play the game.

welding implementation concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

This sketch does not show much different from the second one, but it does show that there can be multiple broken engine pieces that need to be welded, which can involve multiple guests.

Client 2:

I like the idea a lot.

I understand using LEDs to depict what has just been welded, shining bright when they are very 'hot'.

I'm not sure I understand what the guest is actually doing -- where is the laser itself in these images?

Is it some handheld thing, or mounted across the room and the challenge is to line it up?

In either case, how is the 'weld line' detecting what the laser is on?

Will this require a hundred separate optical sensors to look 'real'?

Reviewer 3:

This concept sketch doesn't give me much more information than Concept Sketch 2.

I almost think it could be included in concept sketch 2.

It is very clear, and I can see how the effect would work.

I would have preferred to see a concept for the laser welding gun instead, and have had this sketch included in sketch 2.

Reviewer 5:

Again this looks really cool and I like how it opens up a variety of experiences that can happen with a group of people. It really opens up a good experience however, the idea of kids using gun might not be suggested. There's potential though.

Overall concept sketch clarity and presentation

Reviewer 1:

Your drawings of parts in the first sketch are a little too simplistic; at first glance, I thought your timing belt was a rubber band.

Try not to mix 1- and 2-point perspective too much in the same drawing; it can be disorienting.

Otherwise, your sketches are pretty clear and well-annotated. Their simplicity works in their favor, for the most part.

Client 2:

Nice sketches, could have benefited from more detail, or visual explanation of gameplay/visual effect.

I think the welding thing has potential, if you can figure out a clean way to do it without hundreds of separate I/O points.

Reviewer 3:

The site was very clear, and the sketches were very neat and clean.

The background image on the site is not distracting, and the white on black text was very readable.

The use of red to highlight things was very nice.

Reviewer 4:

Simplistic but got the point across. nothing exceptional though.

Think that a few points could've been better clarified

Reviewer 5:

These concept sketches are awesome and show that there is a lot of potential for this idea. However I think that there are a few things that can make the concept sketches clearer. It's hard to understand how laser welding and welding implementation are 2 different things. They seem like the same approach to solving a problem but the sketches consider 2 different ways to using a laser gun to fix things.
