Sprout concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

This product is going in a good direction. The material choice as you identified is really important for the process to happen. A suggestion would be to consider in more detail the planting process. Some users may not be adept at that. Maybe there is a way you could incorporate markings on the stub that indicates how deep the user should put the pencil stub in the pot, etc. and using the eraser in some way as an indication of how much watering is needed. This would be helpful for the plant inept.

Reviewer 2:

The concept sketch depicts the user experience well and shows the eco-potential of the product. The use cycle shows that you have thought about the product-user experience. Remember to consider what users might do wrong with the product. For example, your pencil dissolves with water, someone might unintentionally spill water on their pencil. The text in the drawing helps explain the product well.

Reviewer 3:

The 'pencilplant' product is a great idea to turn something that would otherwise be regarded as trash into something that is fun and innovative.

Redesigning a basic pencil into one that is composed of a plant seed and other bio-degradable parts makes it sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Additionally, the whole idea of the product is fun and gives the user a sense of attachment and investment in the plant, providing a great reward in the end in the form of a beautiful flower.

This product could appeal to many interested customers and could also be manufactured simply and cheaply.

Great product embodiment!

Recyclite concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

This product is very interesting. It certainly would make unique furniture and pieces. I am however unclear with how a home user would make the material with his scraps as per the storyboard. It would be useful to see a design for a machine of product that helps them do that. That being said, the material itself might very good for Staples as a fun replacement to other products. My question would whether phenolic resin, is environmental in itself? Is this a fossil fuel based resin? Are there any toxicity concerns etc. This would be something to explore.

Reviewer 2:

The sketch gives good information about how the product would look. I think that there should be more information about the human experience

The text in this case is a bit overwhelming. I would suggest having less text, some of your descriptions are repeated; removing repetition and staggering the text more might help.

Reviewer 3:

Recyclite is a great idea that makes use of an old material to fabricate a new one.

It not only is sustainable and practices reusability, but it also adds an element of modernness and "hip-ness" that could be factored into the construction of very appealing furniture.

Some customers might like the whole "recycled history" and jumbled appearance of the recyclite in their furniture, while there could very well be others that would be turned off by it. Maybe something less outstanding like a binder or notebook instead of a table might be more favored by users.

Also, when using the recyclite for furniture items such as tables and chairs, the structural integrity of the resin material is a huge factor, as well as the cost of making such large items with resins as opposed to woods or plastics.

But regardless, colorful and unique patterns generated by the recyclite could be a very promising material substitute found intriguing and appealing by many.

Client 4:

interesting idea. My questions are really around feasibility. How feasible is it to get the recycling output to look like something visually interesting? Are there any environmental bad actors needed to make this look possible?

Reusable Paper Box concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

Your reusable paper box seems both feasible and like a person would understand how to use it. Something's to consider for a future design implementation would be ways to make it easier for people to move the box, and where and how the box will be stored. If stored with paper in it, you will need a way to store it so that people can stack boxes without damaging the paper I side.

Reviewer 2:

The concept sketch gives a good idea of the purpose of the product. It leaves the user-product interaction a bit unexplained. I would suggest considering questions like how would people treat this differently from a regular recycling bin that people use to recycle paper and bottles.

Reviewer 3:

Implementing a reusable paper bin system is a great idea to cut down on cardboard box use that would otherwise be needed during delivery.

In addition, they can be used to transfer back recycled paper waste and overall provide a systematic, organized method to the paper cycle.

One suggestion is to provide bins of different sizes for customers that use different amounts of paper.

Some locations, for example, might only purchase a few reams of paper at a time and won't necessarily be able to accommodate a large recycling bin, while other locations with warehouse facilities might be able to.

Overall concept sketch clarity and presentation

Reviewer 1:

Your presentation was very good. Your drawing skills create clear understandable drawings and your websites were neat and well presented. Annotations complemented the drawings just enough. Good job!

Reviewer 2:

Your drawings were clear: they depicted parts of the product clearly and well. Be careful in using extra text. Text can be useful in explaining but here some of it clutters the drawing and makes it more difficult to understand the product.

Reviewer 3:

Excellent sketches! All were very clear, neat, and also employed proper techniques such as perspective and shading.

Labels and text were clear too, and the overall intents of each product embodiment were effectively conveyed.

Great work!
