floor robot arm concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

I think it would be really cool to see a robot hand performing something you coded it to. But I think it would still be hard to get everyone involved. Using lasers will be easy to mimic (they don't really need to work), and they will still look cool. It also makes it easy to reset for next group.

Reviewer 2:

I like the idea. But I don't understand how it will incorporate larger groups. It seems like a one person game... Maybe I'm just not understanding the coding/simulating part!

Reviewer 3:

The drawing looks great, like a real robot. The game is clear, however, the laser feels a little...wanting. What I mean is, you have this giant robotic arm and a tiny little laser. It feels like a mis-match between power and precision. If you are going to have a laser on a robotic arm, I think it needs to "feel" more powerful.

Client 4:

I like the idea of a programming challenge involving a robot arm.

Seeing a laser beam coming from that arm (in a room with some theatrical haze) would be very neat.

We wouldn't even need to know the position of the arm to judge success, we could just have a sensor look for the laser to hit the target.

Client 5:

This idea looks like a lot of fun.

What are you going to do to make sure people can't physically manipulate or damage the robot?

Is it behind any protective surface?

Can you get more people's hands on the controls?

Reviewer 6:

*Very well drawn *Using multiple users to control different ranges of motion is a great way to get more people involved! *Strong idea *Seems feasible and enjoyable *I like the lasers

ceiling robot arm concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

Same comments as the other robot arm. This one will be a little bit harder to implement, since it needs to grab objects and move them. I also don't really get how the puzzle will reset, but it has good potential if it does reset in an easy way.

Reviewer 2:

Awesome! I like this idea and I like the different considerations Faye made in designing the gag since it can be reset easily. My concern is again that it seems to be a single user gag...

Reviewer 3:

I think this is the best of the three choices. The arm looks great, and the game fits with what I expect a robotic arm to do. Having the arm manipulate an actual object is the best use of the arm (in my opinion)

Client 4:

This is a cool looking arm.

I like the idea of transferring objects, like power tubes, around very much.

That would be a cool challenge, though i'm afraid of getting the system robust/reliable enough that it's not dropping stuff on the floor all the time.

Perhaps it could end in an electromagnet, rather than a claw, to help make a secure grab and release mechanism.

Neat idea.

Client 5:

Is there anything that can be added to this element mid-game to make it easier or more challenging?

Reviewer 6:

*This arm also looks quite feasible in that it mechanically has been done before and resetting has been thought of. *This looks much less fun than the first idea. I'm not sure you get as cool of an effect from just moving an object.

spherical robot concept sketch comments

Reviewer 1:

Same comments as the other robot arm. I agree that a huge spherical robot would look awesome. I think I like this one the most.

Reviewer 2:

Cool! It looks really awesome and I think it has an awesome wow effect. I'd like to see what the user interface looks like and how there can be multiple players involved in these games!

Reviewer 3:

This drawing also looks good, however, I don't think it is as good as the ceiling robot arm. Also, while the giant sphere might be cool, swinging a laser around might make it difficult to track. You might want some type of smoke so that the laser can be seen.

Client 4:

This could be very cool, especially at full scale.

We have about 13' of height above the concrete floor to work with.

We could give control of the different axes to different stations/players so they have to work together.

Client 5:

This game looks really cool.

Can the robot arm move 360 degrees?

Don't forget that you will need to add haze if you want to see the lasers!

Reviewer 6:

I really like the look of this robot. This is a very cool conceptualization for how you can take this idea from interesting to exciting. Good use of shading and I appreciate the arrows to indicate degrees of freedom. Think of how you could get more people involved in this so it is fun for everyone. I also enjoy the idea of scaling this up. I think 6 to 8 feet would be an impressive size that would still be able to fit in a room and manageable to control.

Overall concept sketch clarity and presentation

Reviewer 1:

Very nice sketches. Nice use of arrows to indicate degree of freedom. Web layout and design is very neat, clean and simple. Good job! :)

Reviewer 2:

I liked that the text was placed next to the image instead of under the image. That way, I could always see the image when I was reading the text! It was also very readable and the sketches were very good. Great job!

Reviewer 3:

Very clear, all these pictures look great and the purpose is clear for each.

Client 4:

Beautiful, curving 3D drawings -- very nicely done.

The written narrative descriptions are particularly helpful.

Well done.

Reviewer 6:

The drawings are great. Your descriptions are well-written. You can tell you put a lot of thought into conforming to 5Wits! needs and wants. Overall, very good.
