Quality and thoroughness of human-use analysis and improvement suggestions

Reviewer 1:

The user experience analysis is very thorough, the thoroughness is achieved by breaking down the product into its essential functions and observing its performance under different conditions. The analysis offers great insight into the longevity and the appeal that users would have with the product even at the aesthetic level. The analysis also provides great observations from working near the product, telling of how passersby individuals interact with it, without any outside influencers. The analysis could be improved by developing the idea of adding signifiers to clearly state the affordances, or what additions could be made to get more people to interact with the PrepHub. The analysis brings forward many downsides to the experience but doesn't quite offer clear solutions to many of them. The symbols that act as a symbol of a function of the PrepHub could be enlarged and equipped with LED's or a high contrast with the rest of the body to attract the users' attention.

Cam,

This is a fascinating project and one that has a huge potential for social impact. In fact, I'd be interested in the non-disaster applications for it, particularly because I lived not too far from Skid Row in Los Angeles and saw the huge needs of the homeless population there. Including the video was very helpful, since this isn't a product or device that I or another user would likely have much familiarity with, and you include a lot of detail to explain the status of the design and prototyping. Separate from the website, I'd love to just learn more about this project in general, since I see so many applications for it.

Reviewer 3:

The analysis covers almost all the aspects of the product in detail. It was actually the first time that I was reading about such a product and was engaged till the very end, so kudos for selecting something innovative and novel for analysis.

Intuitiveness, usability and prominence have been covered in great detail in the analysis. I have a small suggestion though, the analysis could have included the sketches of instances when humans would use it to showcase the actual interaction between the user and the product. Also, the assignment requires us to redesign some of the shortcomings of the product/service under analysis. I couldn't find the details of how one could redesign it for better usability, prominence or intuitiveness or for that matter any other factor.

Reviewer 4:

EXCELLENT! Very thorough and extremely well written! You give necessary details and analyze the experience from all angles. The multiple points of view (children, adults, familiar users, unfamiliar users) and multiple settings (calm park setting, urban center setting, and disaster setting) all add crucial perspectives to your analysis and show that you've taken the time to think about everything. I would suggest adding a summary section at either the beginning or end of the site so people can easily see the most important problems and solutions of the experience. The text is well-written, but it does mostly consist of large chunks, so breaking it up would be helpful to people looking for specific information.

Clarity and presentation of human-use experience analysis

Reviewer 1:

The presentation is hard to read and hard to decipher between different the different topics that you are going over. The presentation reads more as a wall of text with little differentiation between the body of the analyzation and the headings, therefore a clearer and more prominent division between the analysis points would help.

Reviewer 2:

The big challenge I see here is that you're presenting about a device that is still in the prototype phase. Thus, it's hard to gather a lot of user feedback. What sort of prototypes have been rolled out and tested that user feedback could be gleaned from? That would be useful information. Finally, there are large blocks of text that could have been separated as bullet points to make the topics of discussion clearer, and thus make clearer the connection between design challenge and proposed solution.

Reviewer 3:

I love one-page websites! They are clean, minimalist and solve the purpose. However, in my opinion, this website could have been better designed by keeping it in a single page but adding some buttons to ease the navigation throughout.

For instance, one could add home button at the end of every section. In the same manner, the home page could be redesigned by having less content and being more informative about the rest of the pages so that the user could start reading about a particular aspect of his choice.

Reviewer 4:

Your photos are excellent and well formatted. The font is readable and the layout is simple and intuitive to read. I would suggest using a more neutral background for your text; black on blue is certainly readable, but I think a lighter blue or a background box for the text with a lighter, but complimentary color might be easier on the reader's eyes. This also may just be my browser, but there are some strange characters popping up in some of the text such as: "charging station, sound ("horn") amplifier" I'm not sure why that is happening, but I would suggest double checking the code because it does interfere with reading your content.
