Quality and thoroughness of human-use analysis and improvement suggestions

Reviewer 1:

As an avid user of the app for bus tracking, it is slow and frustrating. I haven't used many other functions, but I'm not too surprised they could be better. The search seems especially lacking and its interesting that similar services do a much better job.

I would like to hear from more users on issues with the app. Perhaps more interviews or a survey could be a good way to capture more data. I'd also be curious who built the app and if they had been updating it or capturing any feedback of their own. This could be an avenue to pursue.

I would also like to know more about some more of the app features and how well they work. There appear to be 12 different functions on the home screen. Are they all useful or should it be streamlined? And what about the graphic design or menu structure? I bit more depth here could have been interesting.

Reviewer 2:

Good choice on analyzing the MIT Mobile App- I too have issues using the app. You had some good analysis of the App, but I would have liked a bit more thoroughness on the introduction and user experience. I also think a walkthrough of how to use a specific function could better demonstrate some of the issues with the app. You mentioned one of the issues was with the shuttles; perhaps a walkthrough of how to use the shuttle could demonstrate what's wrong with the experience. You have great recommendations and they seem to solve quite a few problems with the experience. Although most of these solutions are software related, a picture would be nice to somehow demonstrate an improved user experience and a bit more explanation of how to implement the solution would make this analysis more complete. Also, a references portion should be included (if you happened to use any outside references).

Reviewer 3:

Your analyses all hit on a lot of issues that I imagine most of us have had with the app! I think it is a good idea to focus on only a few features of the app, but it would be nice to have more depth into each of the issues, or if you prefer, with the allotted space you can analyze more features (especially since you list five but analyze only 3). For your analyses, your anecdotes and examples are very useful, maybe you could include some secondary research on similar apps for other schools to provide some context as well?

Reviewer 4:

Being a frequent user of the app myself, I was very excited to read this analysis. A lot of features have been covered, flaws have been pointed out and recommendations have been made and, everything looks great!

There could be a few additions in the analysis! For instance, a user's journey could have been covered in detail. How someone is in a hurry for the morning class and needs to find out about shuttle availability. More use cases could have imparted the necessary thoroughness to the analysis. Also, in place worded recommendations for the app, inclusion of a new UI design would be more impressive and intuitive for the reader.

Clarity and presentation of human-use experience analysis

Reviewer 1:

The writing of the comments was clear and concise. Some things to consider improving could be the structure and visual hierarchy. Including a table of contents or structure preview can be helpful, also each section could be more clearly demarcated with borders, white space, or font formatting. Also, the gray font background w/ white text looks very similar to the screenshots and since they are overlaid and/or adjacent it can be visually confusing which parts of the screen are screenshots or comments from the user. Also, don't forget to sign your work!

Reviewer 2:

The choice of what to analyze was clear and the design was nice and simple. A navigation bar at the top would be nice, like "Background, Limitations, Recommendations" so that it's easy to jump from one part to another. It was a bit hard to read the text when it's overlaid onto the images. I found myself often distracted by the images behind and couldn't focus on reading. I would also suggest having a list of limitations before diving deep into them so it's clear what the limitations are. The recommendations were done nicely and simple. They're clear and easy to understand.

Reviewer 3:

Your piece has a very nice aesthetic that may actually distract from clarity certain times. I really like the top section introducing the app and its problems. You have clearly delineated text and images (which could use captions) that are easy to interpret. Once you get into the limitations section, the grey boxes with white text actually blend in too well with the UI of the app, and it is a bit misdirecting for the eye to try to indentify your own work. It also might be nice to make the suggestions section the same color breakdown as the introduction section so that you have a visual consistency.

Reviewer 4:

The website design looks clean and wonderful! The information has been neatly arranged to gather reader's attention in the first go.

I have a small suggestion for the website design, it was required for us to build an "interactive user experience for our analysis of an interactive experience". So, although one-pager websites are great, in my opinion, this website could have been better executed with more links between pages, buttons, etc. For instance, you could make buttons on the app itself for a non-user to show different sections of the app and their respective problems.
