I m so curious to know how your sketch model is functioning. I think you put a lot of thought and time into the design and construction of the model. The concept, from my background, seems plausible and I wish you luck in getting it functioning. Overall, you thought about what problem you were trying to solve which is good. You laid out your design, or so it appears, before you built it which is also good to see. On the other side you did not get it working, according to the website, but that can be addressed with time.

This is an interesting concept worth exploring. My suggestion for you would be to do a bit of first principles with boundary layer separation and fully developed flow inside a cylinder to get an understanding of what it is people will be seeing since, according to your sketch model, it is contingent upon the flow directions of the water. This will greatly help you understand how to model it is what you want to model water motion simulation. I really wanted to see the model working the way that you had intended during the presentation. I have an understanding of what you are doing and why you are doing it, but have you considered using some other way instead of creating some underwater effects like perhaps a room with screens projecting 3d underwater images. I know that this might be far from what you are doing, however it provides some really cool effects that people do pay to see. I appreciate the detail that went into developing this concept and the ways in which you can simulate different types of direction (left, right, et cetera). Will a simulation with the LCD images be available? I will be very interested to see how it works. As for more feedback, maybe you want to consider one direction of flow to simplify the sketch model a bit and try to get that to work. This can be done by getting the pump to circulate water in a single loop and just using your CGIs to display motion that would correspond to the water flow direction. May I also suggest trying different geometry tanks? Like maybe using a tank that has rounded ends instead of rectilinear ends. I do not know what effect it will necessarily produce, but I am sure it is something worth exploring. Please update your sketch model page when you have a working prototype because I would like to provide some added feedback once I have a look at what you produced. Overall, though, I really like what you have produced so far.

Reviewer 3:

Your idea is very neat, and you took on quite a big technical challenge with this sketch model. The pipework looks very complicated, so I m a bit unsure of how it works exactly. Perhaps your website could have conveyed how you planned on controlling the various valves to simulate the various speeds and directions of submarine motion. It s too bad that it didn t end up working for the class presentation. Your website explains that the hose connections proved to be leaky and there was not enough time to replace them before the deadline. Consequently, there are currently no results to report. However, much was learned regarding the sketch model construction to aid in repair and further development. It would be good to explain what you did learn, since you weren t able to convey any actual results. Where did things leak? What did you learn about construction? Did it work at all? When are you planning on fixing it? I like your idea of using existing footage (from the Wii) for the sketch model, and it s nice that you have footage from the underwater submersible that you can use for future iterations (as I m guessing that you d run into problems if you tried to use the Wii footage in the final version).

I really like the idea of having actual water flows to make underwater effect more realistic. It seems like different kinds of two axis water flow will be able to give a sense of moving direction to the participants. I really wanted to see how the simulation looks like when you presented your model. Hopefully, next version of your model can show us awesome underwater effect. Since your two axis water flow will help participant to feel that the submarine is moving toward a particular direction, if you can synchronize the movement shown in your background video with your two axis water flow, it would be really good.
