User Profile & LSC Facilities

LSC movies are geared towards the MIT community. This means an age range extending from late teens to late twenties for undergraduate and graduate students, and older for faculty and staff. During Orientation and Campus Preview Weekend, LSC movies have attracted parents and siblings of students. There are also local residents who hear of LSC and come to campus to check out a movie.

LSC uses the 26-100 lecture hall for most of its movies. It is equipped with surround sound, rear-window closed captioning, two 35mm projectors, and a large screen. The refreshments equipment consists of a popcorn popper, a soda fountain, a microwave, and a refrigerator. However, all equipment is run by members of the MIT community itself, primarily students and not professionals.

A user can expect to have a movie theater experience that outperforms a laptop, but there exists the risk of interruption that would not occur in a first-run theater or at home.

I myself have been an LSC member for 3.5 years, meaning that I've volunteered to help run LSC movies and events in exchange for free admission. This also means that I have never gone through the experience of buying a ticket or being excluded from anything happening in 26-100 before it is open to the public.
