14 April 2011 - 18 MIT students traveled to Minneapolis for the 2011 Design of Medical Devices Conference where they presented ten papers and posters, representing the work of 51 students, instructors and clinicians.

Three projects were selected to compete in the Three-in-Five Competition which gave presenters three slides and five minutes to “pitch” their projects.  From a field of eight competitors MIT garnered two of the three prizes with Thomas Lipoma representing “Somnus: A Sleep Measuring Shirt Based on Chest Expansion and Respiratory Patterns” and Thomas Cervantes representing the Kidney Coolers with “Innovative Renal Cooling Device for Use in Minimally Invasive Surgery.”
