Although the pictures on this page show the making of a 2007 ring, the process will be the same for your 2008 Brass Rat.

A metal mold, carefully formed around the original hand-detailed ring, is used to create a wax model for each brass rat. Each wax is then modified to the appropriate finger size. The ring is then made in the metal of your choice using a vacuum casting technique for a durable, accurate ring. Every ring is carefully hand polished to preserve detail, and if desired, a finish is applied and heat-set for greater contrast.

Balfour, a company that has produced MIT Brass Rats since the 1930s, offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty and Ring Loss Protection Plan.
