The Tale of Veronica the Ring

Once upon a time...

there lived a ring named Veronica. Veronica was the Royal ring of the King. The King wore her all the time. This made her very vain. Whenever people would meet the King, they would all kneel before him and give Veronica a kiss. When the Queen was still alive, Veronica could be found boasting, "Look how special I am. They kiss me before they even acknowledge the Queen." Which was true. Because it wasn't until after the any vistor kissed the Royal ring would they bow to the Queen.

All this attention had a bad effect on Veronica. She would taunt the other Royal objects. "What are you good for?" she said to the Royal throne. "I mean who ever notices you."

"Only the king may sit upon me. That makes me special enough," the Royal throne would answer.

"Yes, that is a very good job you have there," sneered back Veronica. "You support the Royal weight of the King. What is he now 250... 300 pounds? You hold him up all day. My, you are quite strong. What is your reward?" The Royal throne did not answer. "What? Did you say nothing? That is what I thought."
